What Is Groat's Garage?
Groat’s Garage is an automotive repair facility in Ames, Iowa that services all makes and models offering maintenance and repairs from oil changes and brake services to engine replacement and rebuilds. We also offer other services such as minor body repair, custom wiring, performance modification and aftermarket part installation. Whether you have a one year old car that needs routine maintenance or a project that has been sitting in your garage for 10 years we can get you back on the road. If you require services we don’t provide, we can connect you with the right folks who can help. We sell our own merchandise such as clothing, stickers, and we also have a selection of quality used auto parts all these can be found in our online store.
We are also working towards offering more restoration and higher end performance services in the near future, so stay tuned or contact us for details on that.

Meet The Owner
I am Brendan Groat. I have been an avid car enthusiast since I was in middle school. I bought my first project car at 15 without ever having done any automotive work and learned everything I could on it. Through high school I worked on many other of my own cars and motorcycles as well as friends and families vehicles. Shortly after high school I started doing mechanic work on the side at my home garage and mobile. I soon realized (and was often told) that I was really good at what I did so I worked with a previous employer to open up a small shop servicing their fleet vehicles and I would service my own customers when I could. “Groat’s Garage” Was an idea I have had with me since high school, but in spring of 2024 I decided to make it into a reality. I have always enjoyed helping others when I can and I thought opening my own shop would be a good opportunity to do so through honest and low cost repairs that are the same quality you would get from other shops. Of course being a mechanic wasn’t my dream necessarily, I would love to grow my business into an automotive restoration and performance shop as well and create a brand that can come to mind for any automotive need you may ever have.
